Paul Watrobski
Paul Watrobski is a sophomore at Penfield High School. He started playing cello at the age of seven. He has been a member of the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra for four years and has performed with them in Germany and the Czech Republic. He currently studies with Janneke Hoogland. Paul began his studies using the Suzuki Method, accomplishing the entire Suzuki Repertoire. Paul has also performed in the Dominican Republic as an exchange student through Traveling Notes performing under Diego Garcia with other student musicians from New York, Virginia, Texas, and Puerto Rico.
Aside from Amanticello, Paul plays in a cello trio during and after school and in his school’s senior orchestra. Paul has also begun writing and arranging some of his own music for cello and plays guitar, including acoustic, electric, and bass.
Paul studied double bass with Tim Legler for two summers and plays double bass in his school’s Select Jazz Band and Jazz Choir. Paul also plays in a Jazz trio, Pick3, with two other students from PHS, Gabe Condon on guitar, and Alex Coté on drums.
Aside from music, Paul has a passion for math, science, sports, and photographing nature. Paul has participated in Odyssey of the Mind and Lego League Robotics (winning 1st place Director’s Award and Technical Award). He is also involved in community service, performing in charity concerts at The First Unitarian Church of Rochester and volunteering at St. Joseph’s House of Hospitality. Paul also plays varsity volleyball at PHS and for the Pace Bootlegger VB Club - competing in the Junior Olympics the last two summers in Minneapolis and Atlanta respectively. He competes in winter track as a high-jumper & sprinter and plays baseball for Penfield High School and Webster Babe Ruth as a pitcher and outfielder. At this point, Paul plans to double major in engineering or the applied sciences coupled with music. |
